All documents are files.  The term “file” is a generic term covering most things stored on a computer, including pictures, movies, music, executable programs, spreadsheets, databases, etc., etc. A document is usually something created by a word processor like Wordpad, Word, WordPerfect, etc.  One other thing to remember – you put files in folders, you don’t put folders in files.  Basic as that is, it trips a lot of novices up.
